Suffolk is well known for its tasty fish and chips so it is not shocking to know there are more than 100 places to choose from when wanting a tasty dinner. 

While many have received national recognition there are some hidden gems that have slipped under the radar. 

Here are five you should try out this year.

Claydon Chippy

Where: 20 Ipswich Road, Claydon, Ipswich, IP6 0AR

A traditional village fish and chip shop serving up all the classics from cod and chips to unique items such as battered Mars bars. 

One reviewer on TripAdvisor said: "The cod was cooked on order and was delicious, good portion of chips.

"I would recommend the curry sauce, the best chip shop curry sauce I've tried in a long while."

The Village Fryer

Where: 50 Field Lane, Kessingland, NR33 7QA

Open from Tuesday to Saturday this fish and chip shop can be found near the Co-Op supermarket in Kessingland. 

One reviewer said: " Lovely, hot, fresh and tasty' great sized portions with an express delivery thrown in! What more could you ask for?"

Another reviewer said: "Never had a bad meal from here in the last 12 years."

White Gold Fish and Chips

Where: Village Hall, Church Road, Old Newton, IP14 4ED

Remu Ramanathan opened White Gold Fish and Chips in 2020 because he "always fancies fast food".

The van serves food in Rendlesham, Finningham, Old Newton, Haughley, Great Horkesley, West Bergholt and Kirton.

Rumbles Fish Bar

Where: 9 Tye Green, Glemsford, Sudbury, C010 7RH

As well as serving traditional fish, chips and mushy peas, Rumbles fish bar also has burgers and kebabs on the menu. 

One reviewer on TripAdvisor said: "It's always been a great experience. 

"Also be prepared to undo your belt, the chip portion sizes are mahoosive."

Howe and Co Fish and Chips Van

Where: Haverhill, Long Melford, Clare

Established in 1930, Howe and Co have been serving fish and chips in more than 100 towns and villages in many different counties. 

Van 20 is often open for takeaways in Suffolk including regular nights in Long Melford, Haverhill, Clare and Cavendish.
