5 reasons why people are leaving London for Suffolk

Over the years people have started to leave the capital of London and move to Suffolk for a more relaxing way of life. 

But what entices them to come to the county?

Here are just five reasons why.

1. Amazing towns and villages

The county is no stranger to national recognition when it comes to beautiful places to live. 

In 2023 a number of locations across the county were named among the best places to live in the UK, including Lavenham, Long Melford and Southwold.

Not are they only great places to live, but they all have an amazing history behind them. 

2. Great schools

Suffolk is home to a number of great schools – whether that be state or private. 

Four schools in the county were recently included in the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide, which highlights the best schools across the country. 

Ipswich School, Ipswich High School, Woodbridge School and St Benedict's Catholic School in Bury St Edmunds all featured in the list. 

3. Transport links to London 

Suffolk has good connections to London for those looking to commute. 

London Liverpool Street is only just over an hour's train ride from Ipswich. 

4. Cheaper properties 

The average house price in Suffolk in the past 12 months was £331,010 according to Zoopla. This compares to London's £732,603.

Not only are the properties cheaper, but the cost of living outside the capital will also be considerably lower. 

The area is also popular with estate agents with some listing their favourite places to live. 

5. Scenic views

Everyone knows Suffolk is home to plenty of beautiful spots that are well worth a visit.

There are a number of places across the coast that will take your breath away, including Shingle Street at either sunrise or sunset. 

But also more quirky places, like the Kersey Splash. 

A dip in the road with water in it shouldn't be that impressive – but combine the reflective surface with the beautiful village of Kersey and you get one of the most beautiful parts of Suffolk.
