A Suffolk football club says it has been informed of "potential safeguarding allegations" against one of its players.

Haverhill Rovers Football Club, based at The New Croft in Chalkstone Way in the west Suffolk town, released a club statement on social media on Saturday after the allegations were raised on Friday.

While the player was not named, a club spokesperson said: "Due to the nature of these allegations and taking into consideration how seriously all safeguarding matters are to Haverhill Rovers FC, the football club has acted promptly to deal with this matter with the FA Safeguarding Team, and the case is now in the hands of the FA Case Management Team."

The statement continued: "The football club is awaiting further advice and guidance from the FA and will look to conclude the necessary investigations prior to the next first team fixture which is this Tuesday.

"The football club will be making no further comment at this time."

It is unclear what the "potential safeguarding allegation" refers to at this time.
