Plans to turn a former village pub into a home has been submitted.

If the application gets the green light it will see the Pinkuah Arms in Pentlow, near Sudbury, transformed into a home.

The application, which proposes the conversion, has been submitted to Braintree District Council.

According to the design and access statement submitted with the application, the pub would be turned into a family home with two or three bedrooms.

According to the application the pub "lacks visibility and would fail to capture passing trade in either direction, recognising that it effectively sits within a cul de sac adjacent to residential properties away from, and out of sight of, School Road which is itself lightly trafficked and divorced from the main A and B roads to the north and east".

The application continues: "Pentlow has no services or facilities that would otherwise attract passing trade or encourage tourists or those who regularly drive out to pubs, where the property is enclosed by residential uses on all sides."

In 2018, the pub closed its doors to customers and villagers fought to ensure the 17th century building remained a pub, rather than being sold off and turned into a house.

It did, however, reopen under new management before closing again in 2020 after the landlords launched their own street food truck and takeaway service

A statement from Pentlow Parish Council states: "The pub was for many years a highly valued community asset, well used by residents of Pentlow and neighbouring villages.

"This proposal would result in the loss of a valued community facility and therefore be harmful to the social vitality and sustainability of the community."
