Why Cavendish in Suffolk is underrated but worth a visit

Often seen as a place that people just drive through to get to Sudbury and Haverhill, this Suffolk village is well worth a visit.

The small village of Cavendish, near Sudbury, has a lot going for it and is definitely a place that should be on your list of places to travel to.

Here is why the village is well worth a visit.

There are two pubs in Cavendish – with the Five Bells and the George.

The George reopened up last year and has already proven to be a hit with not only locals but people living outside the village as well.

Offering gourmet burgers, the George is a real pull for people to come to the area.

And in 2023 the Five Bells was recognised by CAMRA after it won pub of the season in October.

The west Suffolk village is arguably one of the prettiest in the county, much like its near neighbour Lavenham.

It has a number of lovely buildings, including a Grade I listed church.

Its punk almshouses infront of the Norman church tower is one of the most photographed homes in the county.

There are a number of great walks around the village.

Walks ranging from one hour to three hours can be discovered around the village – including the Cavendish to Clare loop.

There are a number of independent businesses located around the village including Duck or Grouse village shop.

The newsagents has been in the village for hundreds of years and was also in contention to be Britain's oldest shop.
