A man has been ordered to pay out more than £800 after boarding a train from Colchester to Ipswich without paying for his ticket.

Wayne Blackwood, of Barrack Lane, in Ipswich, was sentenced at St Albans Magistrates' Court in Hertfordshire on March 27.

The 37-year-old had been charged with travelling on the railway without paying the fare.

This was in relation to an offence on July 22 last year at Colchester railway station, where on the train to Ipswich he travelled without having paid the train fare with intent to avoid payment.

He was found guilty of the charge last month.

Blackwood was ordered by magistrates at the court to pay a fine of £440 in the hearing.

He was also told to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £176, as well as costs of £175 and compensation of £9.50 for the ticket, meaning he has a total of £800.50 to pay.

Blackwood was not present at the hearing.
