Armed police and dog units were called to Sudbury last night to search for a man alongside the police helicopter.

Multiple police cars were sent to the Springlands Way/Mountbatten Road area at around 10.30pm with officers on the ground being supported by the Boreham police helicopter in the air.

Last night, a Suffolk police spokeswoman said officers had received unconfirmed reports that the man may have a firearm.

Witnesses reported seeing several police cars in the area and hearing the police helicopter hovering above.

This morning, a spokesman for Suffolk police said the search was called off after no trace of the suspect could be found.
