VOLUNTEERS at a retreat for people coping with cancer are hoping to raise funds to install an “eco” toilet at the site.
The Eden-Rose Coppice Trust, based in Sudbury, provides a quiet wooded area for patients battling serious illness, but at present, there are no toilet facilities.
Team leader, Rob Brooks, said they wanted to provide facilities that tied in with the environment, adding: “Once we have the funds to purchase it, children from Hillside special school will put the unit together from a pre-formed kit, as an exercise in life skills. It’s a great way of supporting two groups of people who will benefit from this great initiative.”
The charity intends to purchase a self-composting toilet, based on the style of a gypsy caravan, but with a living grass roof. They already have a grant towards the cost, but still need to raise £800.
The Highbury Barn in Great Cornard will host a special event on February 25 to help reach the target. Entertainment will be provided by Andy McEwen from Lincolnshire band, the Warbirds, and Sudbury blues outfit, Red Handed. Tickets are £5 and include a meal. Call Rob on 07811 111788 to book.
