A CHARITY which supports a centre for adults with learning disabilities has announced a number of fundraising events for 2012.
Helping Hands – which has a sole function of supporting and campaigning on behalf of the Sudbury Resource Centre – has been the focus of the year-long Spirit of Sudbury (SoS) Campaign which is on course to raise £10,000 for the centre, which supports 60 adults with learning disabilities.
The money will be put towards creating an outside garden café, which will be serviced by adults from the centre’s catering department and open to the general public.
However, the SoS campaign comes to a climax at the end of March and the charity has recognised the need to continue to generate significant funds.
Jack Owen, Helping Hands chairman, said: “The SoS campaign has been a roaring success and it has raised a significant amount of funds for the centre. However, it is important that we build on this success and keep the money coming in. Securing funds from the statutory bodies is becoming more and more difficult so in reality we have no choice but to put huge efforts into our own fundraising if the centre is to have a long and prosperous future.
“We have already planned a number of events from March onwards and I am sure there will be more to come. During the SoS campaign we have had marvellous support from within the community and we hope that continues in 2012.”
Events arranged by Helping Hands for 2012 include plant sales, an Easter Egg hunt, participation in the Sudbury Fun Run, book sales, quiz nights, a fish and chips night, a Halloween disco, a pamper evening and a Christmas party. Times and date for all events will be announced throughout the year.
