People have the chance to view, and have their say on, plans for the £8.5m redevelopment of Gainsborough’s House museum in Sudbury on Friday.

They will have the opportunity to talk to the architects and Project Manager at an exhibition at the museum between 10am and 7pm on Friday. The museum is planning to transform a former council building behind the museum.

Museum director Mark Bills said: “This nationally significant project represents a once in a lifetime opportunity for Gainsborough’s House. It has enormous support, yet we still need to secure £1m by March 2018 to ensure the project goes ahead.”

Designed by award-winning architects ZMMA, the building will use materials from local heritage companies, including The Bulmer Brick and Tile Company, and Sudbury silk, the project will ensure further economic benefits for the community.

It will also create up to five on-going apprenticeship opportunities, offering community members the chance to learn valuable skills.
