No less than 10 fire engines were in attendance at the scene which saw a blaze take hold of a disused commercial building in Hamlet Road in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews from Cambridge, Linton, Clare, Haverhill and Ixworth, with eight crews plus two engines holding specialist equipment, were called to the scene just before 3.15am.

As the fire raged on, it spread to an adjacent brick building which was also disused.

The incident was under control shortly after 7am and an investigation was launched into the cause of the fire.

Police closed Hamlet Road at the junction of Sturmer Road to allow fire and rescue vehicles to access the building, no one was hurt in the incident.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire investigation officers will be meeting with police investigators this morning.”

Police are currently still at the scene.
