Almost 600 schools in Suffolk and Essex have announced closures or partial closures today after a night of heavy snow showers. Check here to see if your child’s school has been forced to close for the day.

At least 277 schools in Suffolk and 355 in Essex have closed or partially closed.

Forecaster Adam Dury, from Norwich-based Weatherquest, predicted coastal and eastern parts of Suffolk and north Essex will see another 5-6cm of snow overnight into today (Wednesday, February 28).

Strong winds – some that could be gale force – and more snow are also predicted to spark disruption in the region until Saturday.

Highways bosses, who have not made any decision yet about whether they will close the Orwell Bridge, said they are monitoring the situation.
