The Sunday Times has unveiled its list of the 20 best villages in Britain, with one Suffolk village making the cut.

Lavenham in west Suffolk has been ranked number eight of the most desirable villages in Great Britain, as part of a five-day series listing the best places to live in the UK.

The village, which is one of England’s best preserved medieval wool villages, was featured in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and Part 2 films.

It was also the setting for the final episode of the mid-1990s BBC TV drama, Lovejoy.

The article said: “Lavenham has a wonderful cluster of fine Tudor houses, as well as a medieval square.

“The combination of art galleries, antiques shops, two award-winning restaurants and the independent Old Buckenham Hall School attracts families and retired people.
“Commuting to Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds would be much easier than travelling to London from here.”

The average three-bedroom detached house in Lavenham, would set you back around £550,000, or a three-bedroom centrally located cottage would cost £400,000.
