AN animal-loving artist with a quirky view of country pursuits is hoping to amuse and inspire customers at a local pub.
Glynis Hughes, a self-confessed ‘hare’ fan who works from her studio in Wickham St Paul, has put together a collection of paintings of the increasingly rare creatures – but not in traditional rural poses.
Her works include the “Harey Biker” – a picture of a hare on a bicycle – inspired by TV chefs, the Hairy Bikers.
All next month, Ms Hughes, will stage her Mad March Hares exhibition, very fittingly at the Hare pub in Long Melford.
Naturally, Ms Hughes has an aversion to blood sports such as hare-coursing, and she often uses her paintings to give the power back to the animals.
She said: “I have been known to paint pheasants with guns, and foxes on horseback chasing little naked people.
“The work really seems to appeal to people – generally I find that they like things that make them laugh and they enjoy the play on words with my paintings too.”
Greetings cards featuring Ms Hughes’ charismatic wildlife have proved to be big sellers at local farm shops and galleries.
Mad March Hares is at the Hare from March 1 to 31.
