A number of pigs died after the lorry they were being carried in overturned on the A134 in west Suffolk today.

The road in Ingham was shut for several hours following the crash at around 8am. Traffic was being diverted through Livermere.

The male driver of the lorry suffered a cut to the head and a suspected pelvic injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment and was discharged this afternoon.

A vet was called to the scene and a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary has confirmed that some of the pigs died as a result of the incident.

The road was clear as of 3.20pm.

No other vehicle or people were thought to be involved in the crash.

There were delays in the area, compounded by the heavy rain.

The A14 eastbound in Risby was shut for a short period of time from around 2.30pm due to flooding.

• Witnesses to the crash are urged to call police 101 quoting reference CAD 45 of August 9
