Sudbury’s new mayor has been appointed following a ceremony at the town hall last week.

Sue Ayres becomes the first woman to have held the role twice after she previously presided over the town in 2016-17.

Mrs Ayres took the chains from outgoing mayor Sarah Page at the traditional mayor making ceremony on Tuesday, May 8, and has appointed Robert Spivey as her deputy.

The new mayor has chosen East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and her chosen charity with a further one to be announced.

She said: “I am thrilled to be asked to do it again and of course I want to do my best for the town.

“It was a wonderful celebration and great to have so many of my friends and family there.

“I will be there for the town and do whatever they need me to do.

“It’s a great role and you get to meet so many people that you wouldn’t ordinarily meet in your daily life.”
