Weather experts believe there is a chance snow will fall in East Anglia today as the region is gripped by a cold snap.

So far this morning, there is no sign of the white stuff in Ipswich – if you have spotted some in your area, send your photographs to us.

Drivers are being urged to take care as they head into work as icy patches develop on untreated roads.

A Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for snow and ice until 11am today.

Speaking of the possibility of snow, meteorologist Martin Bowles said: “All this week there’s going to be showers down the eastern side of the country, even today and tomorrow we’re likely to get some snow on higher ground.

“And because Thursday is that much colder, there’s potential for snow a bit further south, places in East Anglia, Lincolnshire and perhaps some snow reaching city levels, such as Newcastle and Durham.”

Gritting lorries were out treating main routes across Suffolk and Essex last night.

Motorists are being urged to prepare their vehicles correctly before heading to work this morning, de-icing and checking their tyres have the correct pressure.

Suffolk County Council’s deputy leader Jane Storey said: “If you need to drive make sure you allow extra time, and your car is road worthy by checking lights are clean and working and your battery is fully charged, tyres have the correct pressure and brakes are working well.

“I would also recommend you take with you warm clothes, food and drink, and a shovel and torch in case of emergency.”
