The annual event, which first took place in 1982, saw 514 runners take on the five-mile route, with 150 walkers completing the same course.

The field in the fun run was the largest ever and Michael Gilbert, from Haverhill RC, won the men’s race with a time of 27min and 9secs.

Odette Robson, of St Edmund Paces, took the women’s crown, finishing in 30:00, and the Wardale Williams Trophy winners for male and female over 55s went to Colin Ridley and Jill Wright.

The Good Friday event supported three Sudbury charities, No72, which is based in North Street and provides individual and family support, The Eden Rose Coppice Project, which supports people living with cancer or terminal illnesses, and ActivLives – a community gardening project working in Belle Vue Park and other sites around the town.

The charities were presented with £2,000 each on the day of the event and the money was raised by the runners and walkers’ entry fees and donations of cash and goods.

Organisers Sudbury Joggers thanked the army of 80 marshalls and volunteers for their hard work to allow the event to run smoothly.
