Charity has benefited from hundreds of runners and walkers taking part in the 37th Sudbury Fun Run.

It supported three local organisations: No 72, based in North Street and supporting individuals and families; the Eden Rose Coppice Project between Friars Meadow and the Rowing Club; and ActivLives, the project working horticulturally in Belle Vue Park and other sites around Sudbury

On the day the charities were each presented with a cheque for £2,000.

The funds were raised by the runners and walkers’ entry fees plus the donations of cash and goods which involved up to 520 runners, 150 walkers, 80 marshals and volunteers.

It was won by Michael Gilbert, from Haverhill Running Club, in a time of 27 minutes 9 seconds, followed in second place by Tom Cresswell (28:27 Colchester Harriers) and John Scaife (28:30 Hadleigh Hares).

In the women’s event Odette Robson (St Edmund Pacers) came in first in a time of 30 minutes. She was followed by Rebecca Cooke (33:04) and Ellie Cumnor (34:17) both from Colchester Harriers.

The Wardale Williams Trophy for the over 55 year runners was won by Colin Ridley, of the Colchester Harriers, while Jill Wright, wo did not register as a member of a club, picked up the female Wardale Williams Trophy.
