Sudbury’s first town centre electric vehicle charging point has been installed at Kingfisher Leisure Centre.

Up to two cars at a time can use the point at designated bays in the leisure centre’s Station Road car park, and vehicles can charge using the most common electric charging connection – the Type 2 Mennekes connector.

The Babergh District Council installed point provides electricity at 30p pre kW with a £1 connection fee, with payment accepted via a smartphone app or using a contactless RFID card.

The charging point was installed by EV Driver, a company who have installed charging points across the UK and worked towards CO2 reduction over the last nine years.

Councillor Tina Campbell, Babergh District Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “This charging point is a first step in showing visitors and residents that Sudbury is open for business however you choose to travel, and will help bring in more people to enjoy everything the town has to offer.”
