FOUR men have been arrested following the discovery of a cannabis factory containing 350 mature plants in Sudbury.
Police first found the remains of a suspected cannabis producing unit on Ballingdon industrial estate, off Middleton Road, earlier today. They removed equipment from the site, including bulbs used for growing plants.
Then following enquiries, officers discovered another cannabis producing unit still in full production.
Four arrests have been made following the discovery, which police have described as “significant”.
Three men aged 21, 45 and 65 and all from the Halstead in Essex were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. A fourth man, aged 22 and also from Halstead, was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and possession of a controlled drug.
The men were all taken to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. The 65-year-old remains in custody the other three have subsequently been released on police bail and are due to return on Thursday, March 8.
Sgt Kevin Horton from Sudbury and Great Cornard Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Discovering a cannabis factory with this amount of plants is rare in Sudbury. We will follow up on any intelligence received and would encourage people to contact us if they have any concerns about drug cultivation taking place.”
