Beware of bogus Morrisons vouchers sent via WhatsApp, trading standards warns

Shoppers are receiving fake supermarket vouchers by text message which are simply harvesting their personal data rather than giving them money off, trading standards officers have warned.

Suffolk trading standards said it had received a report of the bogus Morrisons voucher beign sent on the messaging service WhatsApp.

Officers Tweeted to say: “We’ve received a report of fake Morrisons vouchers doing the rounds on #WhatsApp.

“Links offering these will take users to a webpage which will harvest personal data, you will not receive a voucher.”

Officers encouraged people to report any similar instances to the charity Action Fraud UK by calling 0300 123 2040.

Suffolk trading standards has warned of a number of scams in recent weeks.

Earlier this week officers warned businesses to beware of cold callers offering knife sharpening services in the Babergh district.

Rogue door-to-door fish salesmen in trimley St Mary have also given them a cause for concern.
