The list of 40 challenges, which members are encouraged to complete before they reach their landmark birthdays, includes a broad range of activities from the adventurous to quirky.

For example, some feel climbing a mountain to play tiddlywinks would be the pinnacle of success, while others favour more sedentary challenges such as eating a whole super-hot chilli or learning a foreign language.

Several of the items on the list have already been achieved by Suffolk Round Tablers.

According to Bury St Edmunds group chairman Julian Swann, they have ticked off number two on the list, grow a moustache, and are part way to completing number 25, which is to visit a nudist beach.

He said: “All 18 of us in the Bury group grew a moustache for ‘Movember’ so we can definitely say we have achieved that one.

“We also put together our own version of the WI Calendar Girls calendar last year.

“Although we were nude, the calendar was just for ourselves and our families and I don’t think any of us intend to make that public.”

Lee Parker, of the Sudbury Round Table group, which has 16 members and is looking for more, said they had collectively completed 23 of the challenges on the list.

He added: “Round Table is a great organisation open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 45.

“We meet fortnightly and we try to do something different every time, ranging from sporting events to formal evenings.

“The main reason to join us is to come along and meet people, have a good time and try some new things.”

The first Round Table group was formed in Norwich in 1927. Founder Louis Marchesi was a young member of Norwich Rotary Club, who felt there was a need for a club aimed at the younger businessmen of the town.

His aim was for them to exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues, and contribute to civic life in the town.

The Round Table is now an international movement, although each local Round Table organises its own community events and most raise money for local causes.

The Bury group helps organise the town’s main firework event, while the Sudbury group is involved with running the annual Lavenham carnival.
