AFC Sudbury will give a debut to experienced defender Ian Miller as they bid to get back to winning ways against Haringey Borough at King’s Marsh tomorrow afternoon.
Miller previously played under Sudbury manager Mark Morsley at Needham Market and is reunited with his former manager after leaving Cambridge City.
He goes straight into the squad for today’s game, as Sudbury bid to end a run of three matches without a win.
“Our season is about helping academy players break through slowly but we have brought in Ian who will give us a good level of experience,” Morsley said.
“He played for me at Needham so I know him really well and he also does some work with the academy so he knows us. At the end of the day it’s a real boost for the team and the club.
“You can’t get enough good players and as well as signing a very, very good footballer we are almost getting a coach out there on the pitch.”
Morsley, who will have Jake Clowsley available once again following a calf injury, is expecting a tough afternoon against a side sitting seven places above Sudbury in the table.
“They are a decent side so it will be a tough game,” he said.
“Their recent form hasn’t been great but they are in a decent position in the league and will be a tough test. Our recent form hasn’t been great, although we got a good (0-0) draw at Potters Bar in midweek and we are looking to put in another improved performance.
“In the main our home performances have been pretty good. A lack of goals is only a problem if you are not creating chances, which we have been doing so I’m not too worried.”
The club was also sad to announce the passing of popular supporter, Pat Arbon, who died on Thursday afternoon.
Pat had been a regular at Sudbury home games since the club’s inception in 1999, while he also travelled to away games before suffering a stroke 20 months ago.
He passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon at the West Suffolk Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
