AFC Sudbury on a high as they turn to Trophy clash with Egham
AFC Sudbury turn their attention to the FA Trophy tomorrow afternoon as they welcome Egham Town from the Bostik South Central Division, writes Darren Theobald.
This will be their first meeting since the formation of AFC Sudbury back in June 1999. Although the old Sudbury Town did come across them in their 1984/85 season FA vase run, winning 2-0 away from home.
Egham Town “The Sarnies” have, like AFC Sudbury, been distracted from the league with the FA Cup.
But unfortunately for them it came to an end in Tuesday evening’s replay at Brightlingsea Regent.
In the league they have started slowly and after five matches find themselves in 18th position (W1,D1,L3).
They have the prolific scorer Kezie Ibe in their squad who has already notched up five goals this season.
AFC Sudbury come into the match on a high after the impressive result against the previously-unbeaten Bognor Regis Town in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, the extra-time winner coming from the impressive Mekhi McKenzie.
AFC Sudbury boss, Mark Morsley gave his players Thursday night off from training to recoup.
His only injury concern is Phil Kelly who will almost certainly miss tomorrow’s match and, after being suspended in the FA Cup, Jordan Blackwell will be back in the squad for this clash.
Morsley has admitted he now has good choices for places in the squad with new signing Reece Harris impressing in both FA Cup ties.
AFC Sudbury have been very busy behind the scenes over the past few weeks installing new LED floodlights.
Some hard work from John Smith and Danny Crosbie has come to fruition.
AFC Sudbury are planning a LED Floodlight switch on exhibition match with an ITFC XI on Wednesday, October 17, where supporters will be able to countdown the big switch on and see a very strong Ipswich Team in attendance.
Should tomorrow’s match end in a draw then the replay will be at Egham on Tuesday evening.
There is a coach running to Haringey Borough next Saturday for the FA Cup tie for AFC Sudbury supporters, anyone wishing to join them can find details on their website.
