AFC Sudbury will unveil their new LED Floodlights tomorrow night in an exhibition match against an Ipswich Town U23s, writes Darren Theobald.

In attendance will be officials from Ipswich Town who will perform the light switch on before kick-off which is scheduled for 7.30pm.

AFC Sudbury’s Football In The Community will be hosting some exhibition training before the match and during half-time along with AFC Sudbury youth teams who will be providing mascots and a guard of honour for the players.

With no midweek match, and fresh from a 1-0 victory at Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday with a solitary goal from Reece Harris, AFC Sudbury will relish this stiff task.

The lights have already made an impressive reduction in light pollution of the Sudbury water meadows and surrounding areas and will reduce their energy usage by up to 70%.

The project has been overseen by AFC Sudbury’s John Smith and Danny Crosbie, both have put in a tremendous amount of hard work before and during installation.

AFC Sudbury Operations Director Darren Theobald said; “Without the hard work and dedication of both John Smith and Danny Crosbie, projects like these would not be achievable, they have worked for many months to bring LED Floodlighting to AFC Sudbury and on Wednesday evening they can enjoy the fruits of their hard work.

“We will be the envy of many clubs in the area and hopefully we can help others with their own similar projects.”

AFC Sudbury manager Mark Morsley is looking forward to the match up and said; “I feel this game is excellent for the club as it’s a match against a high level opponent that’ll be a test and with a clear week better than running two training sessions.

“For the club it’s a chance to show case another forward thinking development at the King’s Marsh Stadium.

“Not only are we one of the first non league clubs to install these impressive lights we are doing our bit for the environment with hugely reduced power costs.”

The gates on Wednesday night open at 6pm, the clubhouse bar and kitchen will be open.

AFC Sudbury’s new mascot, while unfortunately not making his debut, will be named on the night. There will be an opening ceremony on the pitch from 7.10pm onwards. Entry to the match is just £5 for all.
