On the run: Daisy Glover first home at Great Cornard parkrun

Daisy Glover had the distinction of finishing not only the first female, but also the first runner overall, at the latest Great Cornard parkrun, held over the normal flat 5K course from Great Cornard Sport Centre on Saturday.

Experienced athlete Glover, a member of Newmarket Joggers, led home a field of 140 at the 227th staging of the event.

She clocked an impressive 18mins 40secs, although this was still 20 seconds adrift of her personal best for this course.

Richard Smith, of Sudbury Joggers, was second overall in a PB of 19:06, and likewise his club-mate Charles Hann also set a PB of 19:21 on his way to third spot. Junior George Mann also celebrated a PB of 19:24 in fourth.

Teenager Amelia Moule was another to post her quickest time for the event (21:38) as second female. Meanwhile, several had their first-ever taste of parkrun, including Cameron Dodd, Stuart Richards, Catherine Fisher, Alfie Mayhew, Emma Arnold, Susanne Harris and Sarah Wilson.
