Enjoy secret gardens across Suffolk in all their spring glory, with a whole host of events planned in April. 

The National Garden Scheme (NGS) gives unique access to private gardens across the country and it raises money for nursing and health charities through admissions, tea and cake. 

Tickets can be purchased on the NGS website or, for most places, it will be possible to turn up on the day.

Monday, April 1

1. Porters Lodge, Cavenham IP28 6DB

This private garden, which is located between Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall, will be open to the public on Easter Monday.

The unusual and interesting garden has been designed as a series of interlocked spaces which are enlivened by fountains and ponds, statuary and surrounded by mature wood with glades and two acres of walks. 

The garden will be open between 10am to 4pm and will cost £5 for adults with children going free. 

Sunday, April 7

2. Great Thurlow Hall, Great Thurlow, Haverhill CB9 7LF

Set in 13 acres of gardens set around the River Stour, Great Thurlow Hall is a great place to see daffodils blossom around the riverside walk in spring. 

Herbaceous borders, rose garden and extensive shrub borders come alive with colour from late spring onwards, there is also a large walled kitchen garden and arboretum.

The garden will be open between 2pm to 5pm and will cost £5 for adults with children going free. 

3. The Place for Plants, East Bergholt CO7 6UP

The 20-acre garden has a fine collection of camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons and topiary.

The garden will be open between 2pm to 5pm and will cost £9 for adults with children going free. 

Sunday, April 28 

4. Blakenham Woodland Garden, Little Blakenham IP8 4LZ

The secret garden on the outskirts of Ipswich will be open at the end of the month. 

People will be able to visit the garden from 10am to 4pm and there will also be homemade teas available. 

Tickets will cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. 

5. The Place for Plants, East Bergholt CO7 6UP

The garden will be open once again at the back end of the month. 

Full of many fine trees and shrubs the garden is described as a 'Cornish garden in Suffolk'.

The garden will again be open between 2pm to 5pm and will cost £9 for adults with children going free.
