Part of a former village pub has been dismantled to make way for new homes.

Plans to transform the Five Bells pub in Great Cornard, near Sudbury, were approved last year.

Now the roof of the former pub has been taken down while work to create new homes continues

On October 17 last year, applicant 20 Gainsborough Limited submitted plans to Babergh District Council for the construction of one new home to replace a cartlodge on the site of the former Five Bells.

Plans for four semi-detached bungalows on the land to the rear of the Bures Road pub, which closed in September 2021, were given the green light in October 2021, and proposals to convert the pub itself into three homes were approved in May last year.

This was despite calls from Great Cornard Parish Council to refuse the plans based on overdevelopment and access fears.

The home will have an open-plan kitchen and living area with a WC, bathroom and two bedrooms, one with an en-suite.
