For the first time this season AFC Sudbury manager Jamie Godbold admits the Ryman North title is his side’s to lose.

The west Suffolk outfit are 12 points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Thurrock and Harlow in second and third, both who have just one game in hand.

It’s been an amazing month for Godbold’s team and, with 10 games left, they are in the box seat right now and on the verge of Ryman Premier football.

Today they entertain bottom-placed Redbridge, at the Wardale Williams Stadium, 3pm kick-off.

“Yes, I’ll have to admit for the first time, it’s ours to lose,” Godbold said.

“I guess I’m only saying what everyone is thinking.

“There are 10 games to go and we have 10 cup finals, but we couldn’t have asked to be in a better position than we are at the moment.

“But we are not naïve enough to think we are there. We still have a lot to do.”

Sudbury today entertain a Redbridge side who have only won six league games all season and have conceded an incredible 119 goals.

It’s top v bottom and the words ‘banana skin’ could not be written in any bigger letters for Sudbury’s players.

“You know that is very much the case,” Godbold said.

“We played Barkingside (second bottom), the other week and everyone expected us to win easily. In the end it was a Craig Parker goal in the 78th-minute that got us the win.

“People can think we only have to turn up and the goals will come, but we won’t be thinking that.

“We will guard against complacency.

“Being top by so many points brings a different pressure. The gap has never been so big and we need to handle it accordingly.”

Sudbury beat Redbridge 4-0 in Essex last month.

Next Saturday Godbold’s side travel to AFC Hornchurch.
