Strongmen from all over the UK battled it out in a charity competition in Sudbury at the weekend, which saw them locking horns over a series of challenges.
The event, held in the car park of the town’s Tesco store on Springlands Way, was organised by local strongman Dan McNamee, 31, who started the challenge in 2011.
The 30 contestants, from areas including Berkshire, Bristol and Lincolnshire were split into novice and intermediate categories.
The challenges included a 10-tonne truck pull and barrel lift.
This year competitors also took part in the ‘farmers’ walk’ – a 20m sprint while carrying 100kilo weights in each hand.
They were awarded points for each discipline and at the end of the day Mr McNamee, who was the only Suffolk competitor, came out as the overall winner for the first time by accumulating the highest score overall.
He said: “It all went really well and despite the rain, 200 people stayed to watch for the whole day and we raised £1,200 for Tesco’s chosen charities – Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.”
Over the past four years, more than £7,000 has been raised at the event.
