I have lost count of the times I have visited showgrounds in Suffolk, writes Andy Abbott as April departs and the events season rolls into town.
The big kick-off starts with the South Suffolk Show, the Hadleigh Show and then the flagship cup final, the immense Suffolk Show during the Wednesday and Thursday of half-term week.
After that it seems there is weekend after weekend of fetes throughout the summer and to illustrate that I have found a few timeless images from shows and community events from up to 30 years ago. It is always fascinating meandering round acres of showgrounds or village greens, observing and capturing for posterity the feverish activity and public enjoyment at these functions.
So on behalf of all organisers, may the sun shine on all your events and may your hard work and preparation be fulfilled. Let’s hope everyone enjoys the fabulous community leisure opportunities to come that dedicated volunteers have planned to entertain and amuse as summer approaches.
