Drivers are being warned to leave extra time for their journeys as they face a 35-mile diversion route ahead of overnight closures for 10 days near a Suffolk town.

The A131 near Sudbury will be closed from Wednesday until March 23 while Essex County Council carries out essential roadworks.

The stretch of road will be closed between 8pm and 5am.

According to the council's website, the official diversion route is 35 miles long and is expected to take over an hour for people to complete.

It comes after drivers were left with a 28-mile diversion for an emergency road closure in Great Cornard near Sudbury last month.

The stretch of road was also closed at the back end of last year along with nearby Head Lane.
