Plans are under consultation for an outside seating area and smoking shelter at a pub in a village just outside of Sudbury.

An application has been made by national pub retailer Greene King to Babergh District Council for the Kings Head pub in Great Cornard.

It is a retrospective application for retaining the pub's smoking shelter and covered seating area.

The Grade II-listed building in Bures Road in the village would retain its smoking shelter outside the back doors to the pub along with a covered drinking area for customers to enjoy year-long use.

The covered seating area was originally put up in the car park during Covid lockdowns to enable the pub to continue trading under social distancing restrictions.

Since then, it has been moved to the area between the pub buildings and yard behind.

These covered structures are said to be lightweight timber with flat roofs.

The venue also has outside seating to the front of the pub.

The application was received by the council on Tuesday, March 26.
