Sudbury reacts to new steakhouse and cocktail bar opening

Earlier this month signs for a new steakhouse and cocktail bar were spotted at the former Riverside restaurant in Cross Street in Sudbury. 

Mayor of Sudbury Jan Osbourne said: "It's actually in a fantastic location and it will be good to see it up and running again because it has been through several owners without much success.

"My view is it will be great to see it provide a facility where people can al-fresco eat along the river.

"I think it it is fantastic for Sudbury and I think it will be good and will attract tourism, people will stay longer and enjoy the river.

"I wish them all the very best with the new venture."

The new restaurant, believed to be named Franco's and serving steak and fish cuisine as well as having its own cocktail bar, will open in the former Boathouse restaurant.

Last month, signs for a Mediterranean eatery appeared outside the building. 

The location of the new restaurant is the site of the former Boathouse, which closed in September last year. 

The restaurant shut suddenly, with tenants saying the decision was not down to the cost of living crisis.

They said it was as a "result of behind the scene matters".

The restaurant is in a prime spot in the town with lovely views of the water meadows and the River Stour. 

It is not yet clear when the new Franco's restaurant will open in Sudbury.
