A farm has been given the go-ahead to build a pumpkin shed and create a wildlife-friendly reservoir.

Oakley Farms has been given planning permission for both on its site at Outwell, between Wisbech and Downham Market.

It said in a planning statement the 70m x 50m shed at Oakley House Nurseries, off Hall Road, would offer "vastly improved" storage for its crop, reducing wastage.

It added: "At the moment, washing and grading is done outdoors, this building will ensure a better environment for both final product and employees working on the process."

The banks of the 100m by 50m reservoir, which will be created nearby, will be planted with "a species-rich meadow mixture" to attract bees, butterflies and hoverflies which will in turn provide food for birds and bats.

The man-made pond will also have shallow, sloping margins to benefit amphibians such as frogs.
