Fire crews have successfully rescued a horse that was stuck between two trees near Sudbury.

Three crews from Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds were called to Ballingdon Hill just outside the west Suffolk town at around 8.45am.

They arrived to find a 28-year-old male horse stuck between two trees.

A vet was called who sedated the horse, allowing crews to safely trim two branches.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Once the branches were trimmed the crews used animal rescue equipment to lift the horse out of the gap and to safe ground.

"The horse is safely back on all fours and the vet is staying with the animal until the full effects of the sedation have worn off."
