Mark Morsley admits he is very motivated with his AFC Sudbury ‘project’.

The boss of the Bostik North team takes his side to league leaders AFC Hornchurch on Saturday, knowing should his side pick up anything from a tough fixture, it will be hard earned.

At the end of a week that saw Sudbury almost throw away a four-goal lead to Bowers & Pitsea last Saturday, before losing narrowly to Soham last night, Morsley reflected on an up and down week.

“Yep, we have had an interesting few days,” he said.

“In many ways both the performances against Bowers & Pitsea and Soham were excellent.

“But the cutting edge seen in the Bowers game deserted us against Soham. They had a game plan and executed a ‘smash and grab’ perfectly, so we need to learn how to adapt ourselves for the different challenges ahead of us.”

There is certainly a challenge ahead for Sudbury at the weekend.

Hornchurch are unbeaten in five and smashed Mildenhall Town 6-0 at Recreation Way last night.

The Essex side are strong and Morsley knows his young chargers face a stiff test.

“A match away at Hornchurch doesn’t get much harder,” he said.

“They are a club that have graced the higher echelons of non-league football, they have a large budget and plenty of experience.

“It looks like both them and Heybridge are nailed on for promotion this season, so we will need to dig deep, if we are to come away with something.

“It will, be a great learning curve for my developing team as we will need to stick together, work really hard and be brave in possession.

“I must admit, although it is still very early days for me back at Sudbury, I am seeing plenty of plus points in the players I am working with and have to say I am more motivated with this project than I have been for many years.”
